Clinic Efficiency

Please contact your State Training Manager:

If you have clinic efficiency implementation story to share, we would love to recognize you.

OR

If you are interested in implementing a clinic strategy, or have started and don’t know what to do next, we would love to help you.

Q: What is clinic efficiency?

In times of rising health care costs and limited resources, it is critical for health care systems to maximize efficiency while maintaining quality care. Towards this end, Clinic Efficiency was identified as a National Training Priority in FY 2007 in an effort to identify strategies at the clinic level to maximize efficiency in family planning clinic setting while simultaneously maximizing all desired outcomes in the delivery of family planning services, including numbers served.

Q: What are examples of clinic efficiency strategies?

Clinic efficiency strategies include:

  • Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Financial forecasting
  • Patient Flow Analysis (PFA)
  • Clinic redesign
  • Next day scheduling or open access scheduling
  • Succession planning

Q: I completed a clinic efficiency strategy but don’t know what to do next.

Contact your State Training Manager (STM), you may be eligible for Technical Assistance.

Iowa/Kansas Shawnta Jefferies sgantt@devsys.org 816.561.5050
Nebraska Jennifer Feldt Jennifer.Feldt@nebraska.gov 402.471.0159

Q: What is the difference between training and technical assistance, aren’t they the same thing?

No actually they are not. Training involves the acquisition of new knowledge and skills. Technical Assistance is used when there is an issue in the clinic and problem solving and problem resolution is needed.

Q: I haven’t incorporated an efficiency strategy, but I am interested in completing one, what do I do?

Contact your State Training Manager, she will be available to discuss what you are seeing in your clinic, what types of adjustments you would like to occur and assist you in identifying which strategy will work best for your agency.

Q: What will this cost me and my agency?

There is no cost to Title X agencies, as the Region VII Training Center, Development Systems received supplemental funding to provide training and technical assistance on clinic efficiency.
